Adam Gilchrist to be Inducted as Inaugural National Ambassador for the Lord’s Taverners

July 25, 2017

Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist is giving back to the sport he loves, taking up the role of national ambassador for cricketing charity the Lord’s Taverners.

Gilchrist will be officially inducted into the new role by former test cricketer and Lord’s Taverners national president Paul Sheahan in a ceremony and dinner to be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground on August 15.

“I’m thrilled to be able to support the Lord’s Taverners, and support all the programs that they run and provide for young disadvantaged people who are looking to pursue their dreams,” Gilchrist said.

The Lord’s Taverners aims to improve lives through participation and inclusion in sport, giving the young and disadvantaged a sporting chance they would otherwise not have.

Funds raised by the Lord’s Taverners are distributed to worthy causes, including across the five pillars of Indigenous cricket, blind cricket, cricket for the deaf, cricket for the intellectually impaired and female participation in sport.

“I know how much difference the support of people around you makes, and if we can give people the opportunity to play sport – whether it be for the enjoyment it provides, or the connection it gives to community, or the confidence it inspires, then that is a great outcome,” said Gilchrist.

The Lord’s Taverners is named after the famous Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, and the Tavern pub at which its founding members would meet. The Australian branch was formed in 1982 and now has 11 branches in all states and territories of Australia. It has distributed nearly $10 million into organisations around Australia.

Tickets to Gilchrist’s induction ceremony and dinner are open to the public, and can be booked via https://www.trybooking.com/QGKV.
