Sports for the Disabled

As an extremely important part of our mission, we offer a range of sporting and associated activities across Northern NSW which aim to encourage participation for young people with disabilities. We started with a lad who has a debilitating disease, is wheelchair bound, but discovered that he could play Wheelchair Boccia. With our help, he has now developed this sport to the stage where he is part of the train-on squad for the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

This started the Disabilities Sports program and the formation of a Committee.

Under the guidance of this Committee and its Chairman we now conduct table-top cricket, modified rules cricket and basketball and assist schools in the introduction of new sports. Dream Cricket is now emerging as a good alternative to the modified rules cricket. We have helped another wheelchair bound youngster to participate in snow-boarding, and provided a new chair to a wheelchair tennis player. Each of these activities or provisions is typical of what this program pursues.

Equipment has been supplied to several schools throughout the NNSW area, and we continue to implement new programs. We also conduct “Sports Days” at various venues throughout our region.
