The I.C.C is coming to Lismore
On Monday 17th November 2014 the first of eight teams will arrive in Lismore for the International Cricket Council’s 2014 Pepsi EAP Men’s Cricket Trophy.
Teams are coming from the fledgling (cricket-wise only) nations of Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Japan, Cook Islands, Philippines, Fiji, Samoa and Indonesia. They will be playing a series of Twenty20 cricket matches, and the aim is for the teams to try to gain promotion into the next level, moving eventually towards inclusion in the World Cup Twenty20 championships.
Elevation into the next levels may be a way off yet, but we are assured of spirited competition between these “young” cricketing national teams.
Our branch has agreed to be involved in the tournament both by catering for lunches for all players and officials on each day of the eight-day event, and in organising a special dinner with Peter FitzSimons, the author, columnists and former Wallaby player as our guests speaker (details elsewhere on this website) to conclude the event.
The concluding function will be held at the Lismore Workers Club on Wednesday 26th November 2014, and details of the functions and availability of tickets can be found under our “Coming Events” menu.
You are invited to come along and enjoy some exciting Twenty20 cricket as these enthusiastic national teams “do battle” on the turf wickets in Lismore. Full details of each day’s program will be advertised in the local media.
